MedFlow FAQ
Answers about what MedFlow covers, multi-location support, on-premise deployment, FHIR and HL7 interoperability, AI oversight, security and implementation.
Questions and answers
- What is MedFlow? MedFlow is an Africa-ready hospital EMR, ERP and clinical intelligence platform that unifies patient care, hospital operations, finance and multi-location management in one secure system. It is owned and operated by Ubora One Limited.
- Is MedFlow an EMR, EHR, HIS or ERP? MedFlow covers all of these areas in one platform. It provides electronic medical records for clinical care, hospital information system workflows for departments such as pharmacy, laboratory and radiology, and ERP capability for billing, finance, inventory, procurement and human resources.
- Is MedFlow suitable for African hospitals? Yes. MedFlow was designed for African healthcare environments, including multi-currency and local insurance and HMO arrangements, low-bandwidth conditions, local date and telephone formats, and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. It is equally usable by international organisations.
- Can MedFlow support multiple hospital locations? Yes. Every record is scoped to a facility, staff work within their own facility, and authorised group users can see consolidated reporting across facilities. Master data such as services, tariffs, drugs and tests can be shared across the group.
- Can MedFlow be deployed on-premise? Yes. MedFlow supports secure cloud deployment, on-premise deployment in your own data centre, and hybrid deployment. On-premise deployment requires infrastructure and operational support provided by the customer.
- Does MedFlow support FHIR and HL7? MedFlow provides FHIR R4 resources for patient demographics, observations and laboratory results where implemented and tested, and HL7 v2 inbound messaging with validation before processing. Every exchange attempt is recorded in an interoperability audit log.
- Does MedFlow include accounting and ERP? Yes. MedFlow includes billing and payments, insurance and claims, revenue-cycle management, a chart of accounts with journals and fiscal periods, budgeting, procurement, inventory, human resources and biomedical equipment records.
- Can MedFlow migrate our existing data? Usually in part, depending on the format and quality of your current records. We assess source extracts first, agree an explicit migration scope covering identifiers, demographics, encounters, tariffs, stock and balances, then reconcile migrated records before go-live. Where source data is incomplete we state what will not be migrated rather than inventing values.
- How does MedFlow support unreliable connectivity? Selected workflows can continue during a connectivity drop by queueing entries in the browser and submitting them automatically when the connection returns, with retry and failure handling. This is workflow-level resilience rather than full offline operation, and the covered workflows are confirmed and tested for each deployment.
- Does MedFlow support IVF and specialist hospitals? Yes. MedFlow includes IVF workflows covering cycle tracking, laboratory steps, embryo development stages, consent and storage records, plus specialty workspaces including cardiology, oncology, dialysis, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, dental, maternity and mental health.
- How does MedFlow use AI? MedFlow uses AI as decision support for documentation: drafting and structuring clinical notes, summarising records, voice-to-structured-note capture and prompts such as abnormal trends or unacknowledged results. AI-generated clinical content must be reviewed and approved by an authorised healthcare professional before becoming part of the patient record, and AI-assisted content is recorded with its reviewer and timestamp.
- How does MedFlow protect patient data? MedFlow uses configurable role-based access control enforced in the database as well as the interface, facility-scoped access, session controls, audit logging of patient-record access, justified emergency access, encrypted transport and server-side handling of all credentials. It is designed to support compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, with HIPAA-aligned and GDPR-aligned safeguards for applicable deployments.
- How long does a MedFlow implementation take? It depends on scope. A single clinic using core modules is a short project; a multi-facility group with data migration and external integrations is a phased programme. Implementation follows six stages: discovery, configuration, data migration, integration and user acceptance testing, training and go-live, then post-go-live support. An indicative schedule is provided after discovery.
- How is MedFlow different from international EMR platforms? MedFlow combines clinical records with hospital ERP in one system, is designed around African operating realities such as local insurance and HMO processes, cash and transfer payments and variable connectivity, and is implemented by a team operating in the same region. International platforms may be a better fit where an organisation requires a specific certified product, an established local partner network in another region, or a very specific specialty module MedFlow does not provide.
- How much does MedFlow cost? Pricing is based on facility size, selected modules, deployment model and implementation requirements. Contact MedFlow for a tailored quotation.
